A filter bag for a vacuum cleaner comprising: a bag made of a filter material which comprises at least three filter material layers, at least one layer of which is a scrim and at least one layer is a nonwoven fibre layer comprising staple fibres or filaments; an inlet opening introduced in the bag,the filter material of the filter bag in at least one region, which constitutes or constitute at most 20% of a throughflow surface of the filter bag, and also possibly in an additional region or additional regions which surrounds or each surround the region or respectively the at least one region, the additional region or the additional regions constituting at most 80% of the surface of the at least one region or respectively of each the region, having one or more joints, wherein the at least one nonwoven fibre layer is joined at least to one of the at least two further layers of scrim so that, during operation of the filter bag, a permanent fixing of the staple fibres or filaments of the nonwoven fibre layer to the at least one of the at least two further layers of scrim is ensured,wherein a proportion of compressed surface area of the one or more joints in the at least one region or in each of the regions and also possibly in the additional region or in the additional regions, is of 0.1 and 40% and is greater than in remaining surfaces.
