PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an MLC (matrix liquid crystal) display not only for a monitor and a TV application but also for a mobile phone and a navigation system.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a compound represented by formula I and to a liquid-crystalline medium having a nematic phase and negative dielectric anisotropy. The medium comprises (a) one or two or more of compounds represented by formula I, and (b) one or two or more of compounds represented by formula II, and/or (c) one or two or more of compounds selected from the group consisting of compounds represented by formulae III-1 to III-4, where parameters have meanings shown in Claim 1. The present invention also relates to: use of the above described liquid-crystalline medium in an electro-optical display, particularly in an active-matrix display based on a VA, ECB, PALC, FFS or IPS effect; this type of display containing this type of liquid-crystalline medium; and use of a compound represented by formula I for stabilization of the liquid-crystalline medium comprising one or two or more of compounds represented by formula II and one or two or more of compounds selected from the group of compounds represented by formulae III-1 to III-4.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
