摘要 Methods and systems are described herein for adaptively adjusting the power level of a wireless transceiver and a cellular transceiver in a telecommunications device to correspond to the usage and data throughput of the device. The device can also dynamically enter different modes of operation based at least in part on network activity data usage on a wireless data network provided by the telecommunications device. By controlling the power levels, the power usage of the device can be reduced in order to increase efficiency of battery usage.

A computer-implemented method for managing power, the computer-implemented method comprising: broadcasting, by a wireless access point device, a beacon signal to indicate the presence of a wireless access point, wherein the wireless access point is in a first mode and using a first beacon signal transmission protocol; providing, by the wireless access point device, at least one user device-with access to a wireless data network; monitoring, by the wireless access point device, network activity on the wireless data network; adjusting the wireless access point device between a first mode and a second mode based, at least in part, on network activity of the at least one user device on the wireless data network; and broadcasting, by the wireless access point device, the beacon signal using a second beacon signal transmission protocol when the wireless access point device is in the second mode; wherein the first beacon signal transmission protocol has a first transmission frequency of beacon signal broadcasts that is greater that a second transmission frequency of the second beacon signal transmission protocol.
