PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and device for reading an image that eliminates a bright spot or the like arising from a foreign substance without using a complicated process, and allows a fluorescent image to be accurately detected from a fluorescent material to be detected. SOLUTION: The image reading method of reading a fluorescent image from a capillary array sheet where an analyte attached with the fluorescent material is arranged at a through hole comprises a process of imaging a transmission image of each through hole, a process of imaging the fluorescent image, a process of dividing image data of the fluorescent image into fluorescent image data groups for respective through holes, a process of calculating a threshold for each through hole, and a process of eliminating the fluorescent image data resulting from the bright spot based on the threshold for each through hole. When the threshold includes an off value and a restriction value and image data exceeding the restriction value is included in the image data group, the image data larger than the off value is determined as the bright spot and eliminated. When image data exceeding the restriction value is not included in the image data group, it is determined that the bright spot is not included in the image data group. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
