A method for authenticating a security device at a local network location for providing a secure access from the local network location to a remote network location is described. At the security device, having a processor and a memory, a private security software is obtained from the remote network location, and the private security software obtains a user selectable personal identification number (PIN), and a global unique identifier (UID) of the security device. The PIN, the UID and the private security software are forwarded to the remote network location for generating a user-personalized credential code using the PIN, the UID and the private security software, including encrypting the user-personalized credential code. At the security device, the user-personalized credential code is obtained from the remote network location, and an authenticity of the user selectable PIN and the UID is verified, without communicating over a network, including decrypting the user-personalized credential code, followed by retrieving access credentials to the remote network location. A corresponding system is also provided. |
