A cylinder (2) made of opaque material with a diameter slightly larger than the largest cross section of the fish (4) to be stored. Water is introduced directly into the cylinder (2) or into a chamber which can either be attached to the outside of the cylinder (2) or is created by placing the cylinder (2) inside a larger diameter outer cylinder (30). The water enters the cylinder (2) through perforations (8) at a first end. The chamber may be positioned to stand vertically or horizontally with a water inlet tube and a water outlet tube (18) through the sidewall at its second end. A funnel or cone (14), which may have one or more perforations (38, 26, 28), is suspended pointing toward the second end within the cylinder (2) a short distance from its second end. The incoming water flows through the perforations (38, 26, 28) in the second end of the cylinder (2) and up through the funnel perforations.
