The invention relates to a method for the automated calculation of quality capability characteristics for evaluating a production process, using measured value data. The method uses a digital processing system and comprises the following steps: preparation of the measured value data; electronic selection of a relevant temporal distribution model from several given temporal distribution models, whereby at least one temporal distribution model describes a mean value of the measured values that alters over time or a spread of the measured values; electronic calculation of the quality capability characteristics as a function of estimated values for characteristics of the selected temporal distribution model, said values being determined by statistical methods; display of the quality capability characteristics.
