Provided is a map information providing technique capable of maintaining freshness of map information when distributing map information. A map inform ation providing system includes: means for updating an update map DB contain ing update map data used for straightening update, a providing map DB contai ning map data to be distributed, an update DB containing update data used fo r updating the providing map data, and map DB for updating the update map da ta when update data to be used for updating the map data in the update map D B is inputted; update data creation means which creates difference data befo re and after an update by the update data and stores the difference data as update data in the update DB; and data distribution means which extracts pro viding map data or update data stored in the providing map DB and distribute s it to a providing destination system upon reception of a distribution requ est for the map data or the update data from the providing destination syste m.
