PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article, which is free from breakage and disordered twisting. SOLUTION: The steel cord is produced using such a tubular-type strander as described below: In a molding device 36, molding shafts 42 for sheath wires are set up in a zigzag manner, and the following relationship: 1.5×10<SP>-2</SP>≤(c-2a)/b<SP>2</SP>≤5.0×10<SP>-2</SP>is satisfied, wherein (a) is the distance from the plane centerline CL to the axial center of each of the forming shafts 42; b is the distance between the respective centers of the adjoining forming shafts 42 measured along the plane centerline CL; and c is the diameter of each of the forming shafts 42.
