The evolved wireless communication system including a third generation partner ship project (3GPP) core network and evolved core network. An attachment request message is sent to the evolved core network by a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). A packet data protocol (PDP) context is activated by the evolved core network and a new attach accept message including information regarding the PDP context is sent to the WTRU by the evolved core network. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) wireless communication system; and (2) session and mobility management (SMM) state machine.
