PURPOSE: A backlight brightness control device and method are provided to transfer a control message for backlight control to a backlight driver according to the current strength of a solar power generation unit, thereby reducing the current consumption. CONSTITUTION: A backlight module comprises a solar power generation unit(21), a controller(22), a comparison unit(23), a storage unit(24), a backlight driver(25), and backlight(26). The solar power generation unit creates a current in itself proportionally to incoming light amount from the outside. According to the current of the solar power generation unit, the controller decides the brightness of the backlight. The backlight driver interfaces among the controller, a backlight control program, and the backlight.
