The present invention relates to an emoticon, which is additionally selected and input, in addition to text input to a chat input window, by a user via a chatting program application used in order to have a conversation with another user in a device capable of communication, such as a smartphone, a desktop computer, a laptop computer, a tablet, or the like, and more particularly to a method for transmitting and receiving an emoticon, which can automatically show a corresponding predetermined emoticon in response to a characteristic of an emoticon transmitted by a transmitter. According to the present invention, provided is the method for transmitting and receiving an emoticon, which is performed in conjunction with a server over a wired/wireless network and uses terminals of a transmitter and a receiver on which a chatting program has been installed, and in which a first emoticon is transmitted to the terminal of the receiver by the terminal of the transmitter, one or more second emoticons associated with the first emoticon are transmitted to the terminal of the receiver by the server when the first emoticon is selected on the terminal of the receiver, one of the one or more second emoticons is selected on the terminal of the receiver, and the selected emoticon is transmitted to the terminals of the users. According to the present invention, when the emoticon transmission method is employed, (1) a reply using an emoticon is available even when pay or free emoticons have not been stored in a chatting program used, (2) seniors who are not familiar with utilization of emoticons because of inexperience in using a smart terminal on which a chatting program can be installed can easily use emoticons, and (3) one emoticon can be rapidly selected among emoticons transmitted by a transmitter, and thus conversation time can be reduced, thereby enabling chatting time to be efficiently used. |
