PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an obstacle detection device for a vehicle for appropriately detecting an obstacle against the vehicle. SOLUTION: A control device 11 detects at least the presence of crossing road or the number of traffic lane as a road composition in front of the advancing direction of the travel road of the vehicle concerned or on the forecasted advancing trace based on the information obtained from a navigation system 17 or the like. The control device 11 set the detection direction of a radar 13 and the image direction of a camera 14 according to the current position of the vehicle concerned and the advancing trace (or the moving direction) and furthermore, according to the visual line direction of a driver detected with a visual line detection device 18. The control device 11 calculates the possibility that the moving object or the obstacle detected with the radar 13 or the camera 14 is an obstacle against the travel of the vehicle concerned, and actuates an occupant protection device such as a braking device 19, a tactile transmission device 20, a visual transmission device 21, an audible transmission device 22, or an airbag.
