An IC card or smart card 1 consists of two parts, a base element 10 and a cover element 20. The two parts are connected by hinge parts 31a, 31b. Each part10, 20 has a recess moulded in it to accommodate parts of an electronic circuit, such as microchip 2c and antennas 2a, 2b. When the circuit parts have been put in place, the cover is folded over the base, and the card placed in an injection mould so that a plastic sheath can be moulded over the card to hermetically seal it.
