<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical clock signal extracting apparatus for extracting an optical clock signal, independently of the polarization direction of the input optical signal. <P>SOLUTION: The optical clock signal extract apparatus includes a first conversion means 30 and a second conversion means 52. The first conversion means includes a first optical converter 12 and a light source 16 for a consecutive wave with a wavelength λ<SB>2</SB>, the first optical converter receives an input optical signal 100 with a wavelength λ<SB>1</SB>and the consecutive wave light 200 with the wavelength λ<SB>2</SB>, and generates and outputs an intermediate generated optical signal 220 with the wavelength λ<SB>2</SB>, independently of the polarization direction of the input optical signal. The second conversion means includes a second optical converter 18, the second optical converter receives the intermediate generated optical signal and generates and outputs an optical clock signal 320 with a wavelength λ<SB>3</SB>, according to the passive mode synchronization operation of the second optical converter. The input optical signal is input to an end face L<SB>1</SB>of the first converter, and the consecutive wave light 200 with the wavelength λ<SB>2</SB>is input to the first optical converter from an end face R<SB>1</SB>of the first optical converter. The intermediate generated optical signal is outputted from the end face L<SB>1</SB>of the first optical converter and input to an end face L<SB>2</SB>of the second optical converter.
