PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic shock absorber changing damping characteristics without causing an economic disadvantage and an increase in size. SOLUTION: This pneumatic shock absorber D has a cylinder 1 and a piston 2 which is slidably inserted into the cylinder 1 and which demarcates two pressure chambers R1, R2 in the cylinder. The pneumatic shock absorber further has a passage 3 allowing the two pressure chambers R1, R2 to communicate with each other on the outside of the cylinder 1, and a valve element 4 which intrudes into the passage 3 and which changes the flow passage area of a passage 3.
