PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary damper exerting an almost constant damper function with relatively high rotating speed dependency and with temperature dependency, particularly at a high temperature of 40°C or higher. SOLUTION: The rotary damper 1 comprises a housing 2, a ring part 5 provided in the housing 2, a shaft body 3 stored in the housing 2, and a sliding part 10 provided on the shaft body 3 for slidably abutting on the ring part 5 in the housing 2. The ring part 5 is formed of an elastomer or a soft rubber. The ring member 8 abuts on the sliding part 10 and has a cavity portion 8a and an opening portion 8b in the cavity portion 8a. In the state where the cavity portion 8a is filled with gas, the opening portion 8b comes into close contact with the housing 2 in a gas tight manner. On the inner face of the housing 2, a protruded portion 6e is provided for engaging with the cavity portion 8a on the side of the opening portion 8b.
