<p>A device for switching electrical effects comprises at least one electric switching arrangement (5). This arrangement comprises at least one switching element (6) presenting at least one electrode gap (15). This gap is convertible between an electrically substantially insulating state and an electrically conducting state. The switching element comprises, furthermore, members (16) for causing or at least initiating the electrode gap or at least a part thereof to assume electric conductivity. The members (16) for causing or at least initiating the electrode gap to assume conductivity are arranged to supply energy to the electrode gap in the form of radiation energy to cause the gap or at least a part thereof to the form of a plasma by means of this radiation energy. The gap (15) is arranged in an enclosure (20) containing a gas mixture combining a high strength to spontaneous breakthrough with a low resistance to radiation induced breakthrough.</p> |
