PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform grinding and polishing work for an optical glass raw material by a single tool. SOLUTION: An optical glass raw material 1 is created into a desired shape by a cuplike grinding tool 3. In this case, this method has steps: a step for holding the material 1 by a chuck 5, a step for relatively advancing at least one side of the material 1 and the tool 3 to cut the tool 3 into the material 1, a step for applying a charge to the tool 3, and also supplying a liquid abrasive 12 including an electrified particulate to make the particulate electrically adhere to the tool 3, a step for releasing the material 1 from holding the chuck 5, and a step for polishing a cut surface of the material 1 by the particulate electrically adhering to the tool 3.
