Fiber reinforced metal matrix composite

A compound material consists of matrix of mineral fibers sandwiched between outer layers of metal alloy. The metal is an alloy of e.g. aluminium, magnesium or titanium. The mineral fibers have a significan content of silicon dioxide, aluminium oxide or iron oxide. Each fiber is at leas 10 mm long and arranged in parallel bunches or may be woven and occupy between 10 and 70 per cent of the compound material volume.
