A Multi axis milling machine has a multi edged tool (10) held in a spindle mounting (3, 5) to align selected cutting edges with a rotating workpiece (2) supported in the bed of the machine. The spindle has three axis adjustment to position the selected cutting edges onto the workpiece in selected alignments. The tool and workpiece setting are mechanical and the system does not require complex tool setting programmes. The tool and workpiece are securely held in the selected positions.
