PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water intrusion detection optical fiber strand capable of improving an accuracy for identifying a location of water intrusion and an sensitivity for detecting the water intrusion.

SOLUTION: An optical fiber strand 14 directed to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a glass optical fiber 11 including a core and a clad; a primary coating layer 12 coating over the glass optical fiber 11 and comprising a first resin including a water absorption material that expands when water is absorbed therein; and a secondary coating layer 13 coating over the primary coating layer 12 and comprising a second resin, the secondary coating layer 13 having higher elastic modulus than the primary coating layer 12. An amount of water absorption of the optical fiber strand 14 is 35 wt.% or less.
