摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the main combustion timing of air-gasoline mixture by only controlling a stratified state of the mixture, and expand a self-ignition operation area to a high load area. SOLUTION: A fuel injection valve 7 is installed so as to face a combustion chamber 1. An operation area judging part 21 judges an operation area based on engine speed and a request load, and judges which combustion should be conducted of usual spark ignition combustion and compression self-ignition combustion. A combustion index calculating part 24 of a compression self- ignition combustion control part 23 calculates either one of the maximum value of a cylinder inner pressure increasing rate, the maximum cylinder inner pressure, the time maximizing the cylinder inner pressure, and cylinder inner air- column vibration amplitude as an index for indicating the speed or the timing of combustion, based on a cylinder inner pressure signal detected with a cylinder inner pressure sensor 13. On the basis of a calculated result, a fuel injection control part 25 controls the amount or the timing of first fuel injection, the amount or the timing of second fuel injection, and controls the stratified state of the mixture.
