The bearing element is made up of glued wood profiles laid lengthways and reinforced by inserted profiles to complete a layered board binder (1) or binder of stacked boards. The binder presents a rectangular section and is connected into a stack by a pre-tensioner (7) run lengthways on the non-load side of the board which in turn is grooved out (3) to take the tensioner. The tensioner extends sideways to half the binder height and is anchored (6) at both ends. Once placed in the groove, the tensioner is sealed in with plastics and the groove itself covered over. The transition from groove (3) to endface (4) should be curved (13) or bevelled.
