The method involves evaluating a record of reference marks (203) for an object e.g. tool by a computer program. A computer internal representation of an object`s model is measured based on the evaluation result. Passage of the marks via the device is detected by a sensor. Positional contacts of the object in the device are determined by evaluating the model and sensor data, if the object is led via the device in the preset manner. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for designing a manufacturing device (2) a computer readable medium storing a program for executing a method for designing a manufacturing device.
