COMPOSITE RETARDATION PLATE, METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME, COMPOSITE OPTICAL MEMBER AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY

A composite retardation plate (10') is produced by a process wherein a coating retardation layer (13) containing an organic modified clay composite and a binder resin is formed on a transfer base (14), while separately subjecting the surface of a retardation plate (11) which is composed of a transparent resin to a dry surface treatment (for example, a corona discharge treatment); then the exposed surface of the retardation layer (13) formed on the transfer base (14) is bonded to the dry surface-treated surface; and then the transfer base (14) is separated from the retardation layer (13). An adhesive layer (18) may be formed on the outer side of the retardation layer (13). A composite optical member is obtained by arranging this composite retardation plate on another optical layer such as a polarizing plate. A liquid crystal display is obtained by combining such a composite optical member with a liquid crystal cell.
