In an injection moulding process for a foam component, the volume of space within the mould cavity is initially limited. A regulating circuit registers the speed and pressure of incoming foam, and the resulting tool-opening motion. The resulting enlargement in tool volume is repeatedly adjusted in accordance with the parameters registered to prevent a decline in foam pressure. During the injection process the mould volume increases until the foam occupies at least 90 per cent of the mould volume. In a second stag, the tool dilates to achieve the desired component foam density including the core. Also claimed is a commensurate foam component.
|
