PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce running cost in an iron removal system by suppressing the amount of an added flocculant as much as possible while maintaining the water quality of treated water. SOLUTION: In the operation method of the iron removal system 1 where an iron removal device 3 is installed in a feed water line 2 and a flocculant adding device 5 is connected to the feed water line on the upstream side of the iron removal device 3, when the iron concentration in water fed to the iron removal device 3 is lower than a predetermined value, a flocculant is added to the feed water line 2 by the flocculant adding device 5, and when the iron concentration in the water fed to the iron removal device 3 is higher than the predetermined value, the flocculant is not added thereto.
