<p>An inspection tool or pig for travelling through a pipeline (1) comprises a first carrier (2) connected by a universal joint (4) to a second carrier (3) which may support an inertial measurement unit (5), a data recording system (6), and odometer wheels (7). First carrier (2) may be a magnetic flux leakage tool carrier including a pig rubber (8) and a tapered nose cone (9). A magnetic circuit for pipeline inspection may be constructed by separating magnets or poles (12) over a given length (11) and coupling them to the wall of pipeline (1) via pliable steel brushes (13) and is completed by backing bar (14). Magnetic assemblies of sensors (15) are repeated radially around carrier (2) to provide complete circumferential coverage.</p> |
