<p>An electrical connector assembly includes two groups of circuit boards that mate with or connect to, one another in a non-parallel manner. The assembly includes a first electrical connector (100) including a first group of parrallel circuit boards (130), and a second electrical connector (200) including a second group of parallel circuit boards (230). A first connector housing (120) includes channels (122) adapted to retain the first group of circuit boards, and a second connector housing (220) includes channels (222) adapted to retain the second group of circuit boards. An interface housing (205) is located between the first and second connector housings. The interface housing includes passages that are aligned in columns that receive terminals (212) that are disposed along mating edges (232) of the circuit boards (230). The interface housing also has slots (206) that receive mating edges (132) of the circuit boards (130). The columns of passages are aligned transverse and preferably orthogonal, to the slots. Each circuit board includes signal and ground contact pads along its mating edge. The signal contact pads on one circuit board in the first group of circuit boards electrically engage the signal contact pads on at least two circuit boards in the second group of circuit boards, and vice versa.</p> |
