<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method of cutting an optical fiber, by which superior workability can be obtained with a simple structure and by which cost can also be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The cutting apparatus 10 of an optical fiber includes: clamps 20U, 20L which fix the optical fiber 11 by holding both sides in the axial direction of a planned cutting part of the optical fiber 11; a blade member 30 which imparts an initial scar 11a to the optical fiber 11 by pressing a blade edge 31 to the planned cutting part of the optical fiber 11 clamped by the clamps 20U, 20L; a blade feeding mechanism 40 which renews the position of the blade member 30 so that an unused part of the blade edge 31 comes in contact with the optical fiber 11 during cutting; a pillow member 50 which breaks the optical fiber 11 by pressing the optical fiber 11 from the opposite side of the initial scar 11a imparted by the blade member 30 and actuating tensile bending force; and a blade pressure setting spring 32 which presses the blade member 30 to the optical fiber 11 with prescribed elastic pressing force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT</p> |
