Apparatuses and methods associated with generating hydroxyl are disclosed. In embodiments, an apparatus may include one or more ultraviolet light sources to first shine ultraviolet light of a first wavelength on an air stream, and then subsequently second shine ultraviolet light of a second wavelength on the air stream exposed to ultraviolet light of the first wavelength, after the air stream has been humidified, to generate an output air stream with hydroxyl. The apparatus may further include a humidifier to humidify the air stream after the air stream has been first exposed to ultraviolet light of the first wavelength, but before the second exposure to ultraviolet light of the second wavelength.
