The invention provides a method for detection of substances. The method utilizes immunological detection of a substance, followed by amplification of a nucleic acid tag bound to the antibody, and identification of the amplified tag. The detection method utilizes mass spectrometry to detect specific binding of the antibody to an antigen by detecting the presence, and identifying the mass, of the nucleic acid tag.
