PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display a retrieval result with a description effective to a user attached thereto when displaying the retrieval result obtained by retrieving a document from a database. SOLUTION: This retrieval system is provided with: a database server 20 comprising a receiving part 211 for receiving a retrieval request including a retrieval condition transmitted from a providing device 10, a retrieving part 212 for retrieving a retrieval document corresponding to the retrieval condition from the storage device 22, and a transmitting part 213 for transmitting a retrieval result about the retrieval document to the providing device 10; and the providing device 10 comprising a receiving part 111 for receiving a retrieval condition and a display condition from a user terminal 30, a requesting part 112 for transmitting a retrieval request including the retrieval condition to the database server 20, an acquiring part 113 for acquiring the retrieval result transmitted from the database server 20, a generating part 114 for generating result data obtained by associating a description of a retrieval document corresponding to the display condition with an identifier of the retrieval document, and a transmitting part 115 for transmitting the result data to the user terminal 30.
