摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device capable of presenting a clear and large screen image even when a screen is at a very short distance.SOLUTION: An image display device includes a projection optical system which has positive refractive index as a whole and is for projecting a projection image formed by an image display element onto a projection surface, where the image display element is positioned perpendicular to the projection surface. The projection optical system comprises a lens optical system having a plurality of lenses and a mirror optical system comprising a first mirror which is a planar mirror, and a second mirror which is a concave mirror. The lens optical system is a coaxial optical system in which all lenses share an optical axis and a lens surface closest to the first mirror is convex. An intermediate image of pixels of the image display element closest to the optical axis of the lens optical system is formed between the first mirror and the second mirror, while an intermediate image of pixels of the image display element furthest from the optical axis of the lens optical system is formed between the lens optical system and the first mirror.
