A method for blanking blanks for use in cupping in a high yield so as to form cylindrical cans of a low earing ratio (variations in cylinder can height) with those blanks; blanks blanked by that method; and cylindrical cans of a low earing ratio formed with those blanks. The method for blanking is characterized in that blanks of a basically hexagonal shape, with each pair of the opposite sides of the hexagon parallel to each other and each corner of the hexagon formed in an arc shape, are blanked out of a long rolled metallic plate.
