PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel carbonylation ligands and methods of their use in the carbonylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds.SOLUTION: Novel bidentate ligands of general formula (I) are described. In formula (I), R represents a hydrocarbyl aromatic structure; the substituent(s) Yon the aromatic structure has a total ofΣtYatoms other than hydrogen such thatΣtY≥4 is satisfied, where n is the total number of substituents Yand tYrepresents the total number of atoms other than hydrogen on a particular substituent Y. The groups X, X, Xand Xare joined to Qor Qvia tertiary carbon atoms to the individual atom Qor Q; and Qand Qeach independently represent phosphorus, arsenic or antimony. A catalyst system and a process for the carbonylation of ethylenically unsaturated compounds utilizing the catalyst system are also described.SELECTED DRAWING: None |
