A liquid crystal display and a manufacturing method thereof according to the embodiment of the present invention a plane-type common electrode is formed directly on a common voltage line. A semiconductor layer is formed on a common electrode and a gate line. So, the semiconductor layer is used as a gate insulating layer. Therefore, the common electrode and a pixel electrode are formed on a substrate. The common electrode is formed directly on the common voltage line. Thereby, the signal delay of the common voltage can be prevented and also an increase in manufacturing costs can be prevented.
