PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve timing adjusting device achieving valve timing suitable for an internal combustion engine while suppressing power consumption and a failure. SOLUTION: The valve timing adjusting device has an electric motor rotated by energization with current; a current control circuit for controlling a current flowing to the electric motor; and a phase adjusting mechanism having a first rotation body rotating interlocked with a crankshaft, and a second rotation body rotating interlocked with a camshaft, and adjusting a rotational phase between the first rotation body and the second rotation body according to the rotation of the electric motor. On condition that the rotating speed of the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine exceeds a threshold value Nth, the current control circuit stops the current flowing to the electric motor to make the current a zero value. The phase adjusting mechanism thereby changes the rotational phase to an adjustment end phase which is a maximum delay phase. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
