The present invention relates to a system (20) operable to extrude metallic materials in the form o f a billet in order to obtain an elongated object. The system (20) comprises an extrusion press (22) comprising a fixed platen (1) having a through aperture (12), and a movable platen (2) having a through aperture (7) and having attached thereto a stem means (4) having a through aperture (5) with a centre axis (8) coinciding with the centre axis of the through aperture (7) in the movable platen (2). The system (20) also comprises a container means (10) intended to hold the billet during extrusion, and a die means (11). The die means (11) and the container means (10) are arranged in front of the through aperture (12) of the fixed platen (1). The system (20) also comprises means operable to introduce a mandrel (18) to the stem means (4) through a backside (9) of the movable platen (2) via the through aperture (7) in the movable platen (2) before extrusion, and after extrusion is operable to withdraw the mandrel (16) the opposite way. The system (20) also comprises a plurality of hydraulic cylinders (3) arranged in both the fixed platen (1) and the movable platen (2), and operable to move the movable platen (2) in a direction to the fixed platen (1) during the extrusion, and in a direction from the fixed platen (1) after the extrusion shoot. |
