<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active material for a lithium secondary battery, and a manufacturing method thereof, with a discharge capacity heightened at a voltage range of 4.3 V or less, as well as a lithium secondary battery and a manufacturing method thereof. <P>SOLUTION: Of the active material for the lithium secondary battery containing solid solution of lithium transition metal complex oxide having an α-NaFeO<SB>2</SB>crystal structure, composition ratios of Li, Co, Ni and Mn contained in the solid solution are to satisfy: Li<SB>1+1/3x</SB>Co<SB>1-x-y</SB>Ni<SB>y/2</SB>Mn<SB>2x/3+y/2</SB>(x+y≤1, 0≤y, 1-x-y=z), and (x, y, z) are expressed as values existing in a range on or inside lines of a specific septangle ABCDEFG in three-phase diagram of Li[Li<SB>1/3</SB>Mn<SB>2/3</SB>]O<SB>2</SB>(x)-LiNi<SB>1/2</SB>Mn<SB>1/2</SB>O<SB>2</SB>(y)-LiCoO<SB>2</SB>(z), and that, an intensity ratio of diffraction peaks on a (003) plane to a (104) plane in the X-ray diffraction measurement is to be I<SB>(003)</SB>/I<SB>(104)</SB>>1 at the end of discharge. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
