The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method of transmitting channel state information in a multi-dimensional MIMO system. The method of transmitting channel state information in a multi-dimensional MIMO system includes: a step of forming a transmission mode for communication with a terminal and transmitting the transmission mode to a terminal; a step of forming a channel state information-reference signal (CSI-RS) and transmitting the CSI-RS to the terminal; a step of forming time information for reporting channel state information from the terminal to a base station and transmitting the time information to the terminal; and a step of receiving the channel state information from the terminal. The method of transmitting channel state information in a multi-dimensional MIMO system can transmit a multi-dimensionally formed channel state information-reference signal to a terminal and can transmit the channel state information to a base station based on the CSI-RS multi-dimensionally formed.
