PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a headlamp unit for a vehicle and the like in which a contrast ratio of bright and dark light is high, and which can perform sufficient illumination cut.SOLUTION: A lamp unit 100a for a vehicle includes: a light source 1a; a parallel optical system 2; a polarization beam splitter 3a for separating the light from the parallel optical system into two light beams whose polarization directions are orthogonal to each other, and for emitting them from a first surface and a second surface; a reflection mirror 4; a reflection type liquid crystal element 5a which, in each of a first region 51 which the light emitting from the first surface of the polarization beam splitter enters and a second region 52 which the light emitted from the second surface and reflected by the reflection mirror enters, can switch between a first state which reflects without rotating the polarization direction of the entering light and a second state which reflect by rotating the polarization direction by the predetermined section; and a projection optical system 6a which projects the light which was reflected in the first region and passed through the polarization beam splitter again and the light which was reflected in the second region, reflected by the reflection mirror and passed through the polarization beam splitter again, to the front of an own vehicle.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
