The invention relates to a method for cleaning a partition 17 which is provided for transmitting heat and which separates a waste water chamber 2, through which waste water is conducted prior to being discharged into a waste water channel 19, from a usable water chamber 6, through which water to be heated flows, in a heat exchanger 21. In order to increase the efficiency of the heat transmission, a continuous cleaning of the partition 17 using a scraping element 15 is interrupted at specific intervals, and an alternative cleaning process is carried out using a high-pressure cleaner 11, 12, 13. The waste water chamber 2 is emptied prior to cleaning the partition 17 using the high-pressure cleaner 11, 12, 13. The invention further relates to a heat recovery unit according to the invention.
