Production of butanol from fermentation using recombinant microbes

A recombinant host cell that produces 1-butanol from butyraldehyde and comprises heterologous DNA molecules encoding polypeptides that catalyse the substrate to product conversions: (a) Acetyl-CoA to acetoacetyl-CoA (b) Acetoacetyl-Coa to 3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA (c) 3-hydroxybutyryl-CoA to crotonyl-CoA; (d) Crotonyl-CoA to butyryl-CoA; and (e) Butryl-CoA to butyraldehyde The microbial cell is used in methods for producing 1-butanol by contacting the cell with a fermentable carbon substrate.
