An interpolation engine generates correction signals for segments of a monitor (10) forming gradient that eliminates any visual discontinuities between segments (16) on the screen (14). A starting count number for a distortion signal is stored in RAM (40), with an increment rate signal indicating the correction signal change rate down the segment. Also, the increment rate signal is automatically calculated by taking the difference between the starting count numbers for vertically adjacent segments. Since each segment's row number is known and the difference between the starting count numbers is determined, the correction amount for each row within a segment is calculated and provided as a correction signal. Hence, a correction signal can be provided for each row of pixels on a screen (14). This information can be integrated to form a smooth correction signal or need not be integrated for vertical geometry corrections since a correction signal is provided for each row.
