A mobile terminal for checking a fresh class of food and a method thereof are provided to safely guide food order by analyzing the food with a smell sensor of the mobile terminal in a food storing and distributing process, and transmitting analysis data to a food safety center. The smell sensor(206) senses and outputs smell of the target food. A memory(208) stores a food fresh class measurement table classifying the food fresh class into more than one step depending on the smell of the food and a harmful food condition setting the fresh class for determining the food as the harmful food among the fresh classes. A controller(200) checks the fresh class corresponding to the smell of the food by analyzing the smell inputted from the smell sensor and displays the fresh class of the food to a screen. A tool generates a harmful food report message including information of the food and transmits the message to the food safety center if the fresh class of the food corresponds to the harmful food condition.
