Provided is a process for producing a biodiesel including the steps of: utilizing a PUFA-low strain of thraustochytrid to form an oil including unsaturated fatty acids; transesterifying the unsaturated fatty acids in the oil to form alkyl esters from the unsaturated fatty acids; thereby producing a biodiesel. A specific strain suitable for the purpose is also provided.
