A sensing device is provided for determining an operating condition in a molten bath of a top-submerged lancing injector reactor system. At least a lower end of a lance is positioned in the molten bath in a submerged position, the sensing device is mounted on the lance and configured to sense one or more movements of or forces applied to the lance, wherein the sensed movements or forces are indicative of the operating condition in the molten bath.
