The present invention relates to a pedometer device (10) and to a method for analyzing motion data, wherein the method comprising the steps of:
- measuring motion data (D) of a user's upper body part (2) by a motion sensor (12) attached to this upper body part (2),
- transferring the motion data (D) into frequency data (FD),
- estimating a cadence (EC) on the basis of the frequency data (FD) by using a maximum harmonic matching scheme of the frequency data (FD).
